THE JAMAICAN MAGAZINE

A FEAST OF COLOURS
When Margaret McGhie’s ceramic tableware burst on the scene in full colour in 1992 there were few takers. “I was one of the first ceramists to use colour in a big way – people would say they were too gawdy and ugly – I was lucky not to be discouraged!” she says with a laugh.

THE TRAVELLING CLAYS of the TAINO
Jamaica’s primeval pottery tradition was influenced by several waves of migrants who travelled up from South America, through the islands. They brought with them skills in pottery making. New styles in function, shape and design, were constantly being introduced and developed.

ART WHILE YOU WORK
The Bank of Nova Scotia Corporate Art Collection
If you walked into any of the thirteen branches of Bank of Nova Scotia in Jamaica in the early 1900s, you’d probably see a line up of austere black and white portraits of members of the board, maybe a marble bust of the Chairman, and a few well-placed oil paintings of scenic Canadian landscapes.

A truly global Jamaican brand

THE JAMAICAN Collector’s Edition Series is a contemporary magazine which proudly presents the best of Jamaica in print. For 2010, for the first time, we will be introducing an online version of the publication, targeting a global market. This year we will also launch our Art Magazine, showcasing Jamaican art and enhancing our suite of Jamaican publications.

Visual Journey: Out Of Many, One Art

In 2007 we published THE ART ISSUE, our first art-inspired magazine. It was a tremendous success. We have followed up with THE CERAMIC ISSUE. Readers, we discovered, want more, more often – so we decided to publish a special art magazine three times a year.

We introduce THE JAMAICAN Art Magazine – offering a print and online version. We’ll take you on a visual journey - join us as we interview artists across the island, tour studios, talk to collectors and view some amazing private and public collections, visit exhibitions and galleries, reveal fascinating stories on Jamaica’s art history…Within the magazine Artpages will be compiled and developed as your one-stop source reference on Jamaican artists.
